Erika Garza

ABOUT Erika

Erika is a bilingual, bi-cultural Mexican-American journalist with over 15 years of experience working in television news, entertainment, and sports and radio. Erika has a dynamic personality which enables her to connect with thousands of people with her knowledge in music, sports, and current events in both the American and Hispanic worlds.

 

Erika's dream to be a sports journalist began in high school. as a 3-time track jr. olympian and multi-sport, state-wide recognized athlete. Erika was a Texas All-American basketball player who graduated from Roma High School. 

She attended California State University, Fresno and majored in Broadcast Journalism with a minor in Spanish. Erika began her television journalism career as a free-lance news reporter for the local Univision affiliate in Fresno. During her time in college, Erika also covered Fresno State baseball for the college newspaper and reported for a national syndicated radio music show called "Tejano Gold."

In May of 2000, Erika began her career in radio on “Romance 106” at Infinity Broadcasting. Meanwhile, Erika also worked as a news reporter for ABC television affiliate in Bakersfield. 

Erika soon transferred to work at the sister station Super Q in Fresno. There she hosted the number one nightly show and weekend shows; "La Huerquilla" was born.

In Oct 2003, Erika moved to L.A. to pursue her TV/radio hosting career. In March of 2004, Erika began working at Entravision Communications on "La Tricolor," a national syndicated network. Slowly, Erika became the top-rated afternoon radio show airing in cities like Dallas, Denver, Phoenix, and 10 other markets. She co-produced and presented all the content. Also, Erika hosted an international tv show on Mun2 called "La Conexcion." 

In Jan 2006, Erika became the first female morning show co-host on "Latino 96.3fm," the first bilingual radio station in L.A. Soon thereafter, Erika transferred within SBS Communications to host the top-rated nightly show on "97.9fm La Raza". Erika became the voice of Famsa, Miller Lite, Cingular and many other products. She also hosted tons of LIVE events and promotions.

In May of 2007, Erika became the host on Telemundo's top-rated weekend dance show called “Descontrol.” Also, Erika endosed and recorded tv commercials for Ford, Tide, Spam Foods, Universal Studios, Compraauto.com, and more. Erika was invited to host many live festivals, parades, and massive events all around the U.S. 

At Telemundo, Erika hosted three new years eve shows, the "Fiesta Broadway" show, the Red Carpet of the "Latin Billboards,"and two Mexican Independence day shows, and a host on ther national morning show “Levantate" from Puerto Rico. Erika also began writing songs. 

 



Meanwhile, Erika's career as a songwriter was taking off. Her songs were recorded by Mexican Regional artists like Diana Reyes, Sergio Vega (RIP), German Montero, Alerta Zero, Valentina and other artists. Meanwhile, Erika traveled to Mexico City to host “Ellos contra Ellas” on Azteca TV.

Thereafter, from 2010-2012, Erika became an entertainment correspondent at Univision Network for the number one Spanish tv show called “El Gordo y La Flaca.” She also hosted special events and other network shows. Erika conducted two one-hour prime-time interview specials with two Mexican music artists, which generated huge ratings for Univision; Joan Sebastian and Vicente Fernandez.

 

In 2012, Erika made a huge change in her career and pursued her childhood dream of sports radio/television. She began working at ESPN Deportes radio co-hosting an afternoon, national, soccer show called "SuperGol." Meanwhile, Erika worked as a "play-by-play" color annoucer for USC football games and as a sideline reporter for Fox Deportes. That year Erika covered the Cotton Bowl from AT&T stadium. 

 

In 2013, Erika continued working on ESPN Deportes and became a fill-host for "Nacion Espn," Erika also covered boxing, NBA, MLB, Nascar, and more.

 

After two intense years of sports hosting/reporting, Erika returned to SBS Communications in August of 2015. Currently, Erika hosts the afternoon drive on "97.9fm La Raza" endorsing Kia, Direct Tv, Got Milk, and Manzanita Sol. Erika also covers boxing and contributes to the WBC. 

 

Erika is currently working to obtain her masters in Psychology from Pepperdine University. Her goal is to obtain her doctorate in psychology to touch many lives and write books. 


Erika loves her family, the beach life, country music, and Jesus Christ. Erika currently lives in Hermosa beach with her husband & their dog Reagan.
